This week has been filled with frantically making, photographing, and tagging final items for the big sale in Salina this weekend! Its going to be the biggest craft fair I've ever done and I don't know what to expect. Only one more in person craft fair on the books after this weekend (Check the Where To Find Me page for details!) but stay tuned for updates to the Etsy store and holiday discounts!
I've noticed at sales that people like the soft feel and mottled colors of the bulky yarns like Lion's Brand Homespun or what you see below, which is actually Hobby Lobby's Yarn Bee Fireside Super Bulky. Since it can't hurt to have more of what people like I figured I'd make a few more of those! I decided to work these up with a bigger hook than I usually do and pulled out an N hook...the result was very drapey with lots of big spaces, which I like! When I needed to think about the button I realized that my usual buttons for these cowls would be way too small...and then I remembered these big, glorious coconut buttons that I couldn't resist buying but had not yet found a use for!
Maybe taking the picture in front of my filthy (and yet never used by me) fireplace wasn't the best idea. Lets call it "rustic" and move on!
I am thrilled by how these turned out!! Here is what I don't understand: I made the blue ones first and just barely squeaked 2 out of the skein. When I started on the purple I was nervous I'd cut it too close (nervous is my default setting) and made plans for perhaps doing a row short or something. I thought maybe I'd get lucky on the theory that the blue was darker and therefore more saturated with dye making the skein reach the advertised weight before the advertised length...the purple having, theoretically, less dye would be longer I thought (see kids, you do use those science and math classes outside of school...sort of) I didn't even approach being able to get 2 out of the purple skein! Not even in the ballpark! I used the same hook only hours apart so my stress or lack thereof leading to tension changes should have been the same! I'm not sure if I feel ripped off by being shorted on one skein, or lucky to have gotten an extra length on the other skein! #yarnproblems
