This week what I have to show you is not so much something I did, but something my totally awesome husband did for me! When you are addicted to crochet as I am, you eventually find that you have like a billion blankets and afghans that you have no idea what to do with! Maybe you wanted to try a new pattern, maybe you started it as a gift but didn't get it finished until it was far too late, whatever the case, blankets just start piling into your life. My husband had built me a blanket ladder for the living room some time ago, but I soon found that one was simply not enough. As we finished up the decor in the guest room I needed a new one to go in there as well! Here is what he came up with:
You all know I'm not the best picture taker...thank you for your patience! This ladder is about 6 feet tall when its not leaning. I painted it white so it would match the trim in the room. The two crocheted blankets you see on there were made by me. They were actually gifts for my dad. He passed away in January of 2014 and as the only child I got the blankets back. That's a very weird sort of thing, heirloom needlework is really supposed to just be passed down, not up and then down I suppose. So these don't really go with my decor, but getting rid of them isn't really an option either. I look at the blanket ladder more as a comfort for guests than as a design element anyway. This way there are always extra blankets on hand!
Overall I really like how this turned out. Its a cute and functional piece that fills a corner that would otherwise not be used at all! Its nice to have someone handy around the house!
