By the time you read this I'll be winging my way through the atmosphere to sunny (hopefully!) Cancun Mexico for the destination wedding of a dear friend! I'm always on the fence about whether or not to take my crochet along on plane trips. On the one hand my general stance is "if I can't take my yarn I'm not going" and the act of "doing" has a way of calming my nerves should they need such a thing. On the other hand I'm always worried that the TSA will take my tiny scissors even though I always thoroughly check to see what you can bring! You just never know when you're going to get a rogue who wants to enforce rules that aren't there. One time they made me throw away the corkscrew that I forgot was in my purse because of the foil knife, which, at 1 inch was well within the parameters of what is allowed (or at least was at the time). Also, isn't it weird that I (seemingly) can take on my tiny but super sharp and pointy scissors but can't take on one of those little yarn cutter things where the blade is totally encased except for the tiny bit that would cut the yarn? I know, I know...I'm overthinking it...it is my way!
Anyway, I've opted this trip to take along the yarn for a baby blanket I have on my docket. Its all one color so I shouldn't need to cut anything, which will alleviate my scissor travel anxiety, and its a patter I have memorized!
Here's a funny story for you: Yesterday at work we had our monthly floor meeting. I work at a very corporate engineering firm. We had to break off into groups and tell our group something we like to do in our spare time...to get to know each other better. What a nightmare. I said that in my spare time I crochet, which at first didn't strike anyone as anything of interest. I got the typical "oh" reaction. We needed to nominate the person in our group with the most exciting outside of work doings. I was not in the running, this was more than fine with me. Then someone said "what is the most interesting thing you've crocheted lately?" and I said "well...I made a scarf that looks like toast." They all looked at me like they weren't sure how that could be possible so I got out my phone and showed them a picture. That bumped me up to the most interesting in our group (edging out a gal planning a wedding and someone going to a conference in France) and ultimately the most interesting in the room (engineers, not the most exciting outside of work as it turns out). I won a dozen cupcakes!
That's it, that's all I've got this week! Keep your eyes to the skies for the announcement of a BIG end of season sale next month!!
