Well hello there! Welcome to the part where I tell you a bit about myself...likely a bit more than you cared to know as is my style!
As a kid I spent a lot of time with my grandmothers, and many summer days with my paternal grandmother in particular. She could crochet anything your mind could dream up without a pattern of any sort and would cater to the whims of the grandchildren as much as she could. She attempted repeatedly to teach me to crochet but she was a lefty (I'm a righty) and 3/4 blind so the lessons never really stuck with me. Nevertheless her "I can make that" mentality stuck with me and when I came back to crochet in my teens I picked it right up as if I'd always done it...and in a way I suppose I had.
While crochet is my main wheel house, as I find it to be the most instant gratification, I also sew quite a bit and pick up a number of other crafts as they strike my interest and fill my needs. I think everyone should learn to do some sort of something with their hands. Nothing gives a sense of satisfaction quite like looking at something and thinking "I made that!" ...well except for having someone else say "You made that?!? That's great!"
